The Process

What Is Paint Correction?

Paint correction is the process of mechanically removing defects from your vehicle's clear coat using machine polishers and abrasive compounds. Every scratch, swirl mark, and water spot you see on your paint is actually damage within the clear coat — paint correction levels and polishes that clear coat until the defects are gone.

The result is paint that reflects light uniformly, creating the deep, glassy finish that makes a car look truly exceptional. If you've ever noticed your black or dark-colored car looks dull under bright light — full of spider-web swirls — paint correction is what removes all of that.

What It Removes

  • Swirl marks from improper washing and drying
  • Fine scratches from brushes, branches, and light contact
  • Water spots etched into the clear coat from hard water
  • Oxidation — dull, hazy, chalky paint surface
  • Buffer trails from previous poor polishing attempts
  • Bird dropping etching and chemical stains
  • Hologram effects from rotary polisher misuse

Correction Levels

1-Stage vs. 2-Stage Correction

The right level of correction depends on the current condition of your paint. We assess every vehicle and recommend the appropriate stage for the best result.

1

1-Stage Correction

A single machine polish pass using a finishing polish and pad. Ideal for vehicles in good overall condition with light swirl marks and minor surface haze. Typically removes 50–70% of defects.

Best for: newer vehicles, lightly swirled paint, pre-coating prep on well-maintained cars

MOST POPULAR
2

2-Stage Correction

A compound cut stage followed by a finishing polish stage. The compound aggressively removes deep defects, scratches, and oxidation, while the finishing stage refines the surface to a mirror gloss. Removes 85–95%+ of defects.

Best for: dark-colored cars, heavy swirling, oxidized paint, pre-ceramic coating prep

Step by Step

Our Paint Correction Process

Paint correction is a precise, multi-step process. Every step matters — rushing any stage creates more problems than it solves.

1

Decontamination Wash

A thorough two-bucket method wash removes surface dirt. Iron decontamination spray dissolves embedded brake dust and metallic particles. The paint is fully clean before any polishing begins.

2

Clay Bar Treatment

A clay bar is worked across the entire paint surface to physically pull out bonded contaminants — tree sap, industrial fallout, and overspray — that washing alone cannot remove. This creates a glass-smooth surface.

3

Compound Stage

For 2-stage corrections, a cutting compound and machine polisher aggressively level the clear coat to remove deep scratches, heavy swirls, and oxidation. Each panel is worked systematically.

4

Polish Stage

A finishing polish refines the surface left by the compound, removing any micro-scratches and hazing introduced during the cut stage — leaving a flawless, high-gloss finish.

5

Panel Wipe Down & Inspection

All polishing oils are removed with an IPA wipe-down. Every panel is inspected under high-intensity LED lighting to confirm all defects have been corrected before any protection is applied.

Is It Right for You?

Who Needs Paint Correction?

Dark-Colored Vehicles

Black, navy, dark gray, and dark red paint shows every swirl mark and scratch. Paint correction is essential for keeping dark cars looking flawless.

Swirl-Covered Paint

If your car's paint looks like a spider web under direct sunlight, those are swirl marks from incorrect washing. Paint correction removes them all.

Pre-Coating Preparation

Paint correction is essential before applying ceramic coating. Coating locks in whatever condition your paint is in — correct it first for a perfect, protected finish.

Pre-Sale Preparation

Paint correction dramatically increases the perceived value and curb appeal of your vehicle before listing it. A corrected, gloss-perfect car sells faster and for more.

FAQ

Paint Correction Questions

A 1-stage correction typically takes 4–6 hours. A full 2-stage correction can take 6–10 hours or more depending on the size of the vehicle and the severity of the paint defects. We never rush the process — quality takes time, and we do it right the first time.

When done correctly by a trained professional, paint correction is perfectly safe. We use paint depth gauges to measure clear coat thickness before starting, and we work with the appropriate level of abrasion needed for each panel. The goal is always to remove the minimum amount of clear coat necessary to eliminate the defects.

Wax sits on top of the paint and masks defects very temporarily. It does not remove any defects — just fills them in briefly, creating the illusion of better paint. Paint correction actually removes the defects by leveling the clear coat. The improvement from paint correction is permanent (until new defects form), whereas wax washes off within weeks.

Paint correction can only address defects within the clear coat. If a scratch has penetrated through the clear coat into the base coat (color layer) or primer, you'll feel it with your fingernail. Those deeper scratches require touch-up paint or a body shop for proper repair. We'll inspect your vehicle and give you an honest assessment of what can and cannot be corrected.

After paint correction, we strongly recommend applying a ceramic coating to lock in and protect the results. Without protection, new swirl marks will form again over time — especially with any automatic car washes or improper washing. If you choose not to coat, use proper two-bucket wash technique with a pH-neutral soap and a quality microfiber wash mitt.
